Agents, Videogames & Tofu
It's been a busy start to the year, and I can finally tick things off my goals list that I've had since the beginning of my professional career almost three years ago...things that I'd spent so long working and wishing for that I had nearly convinced myself that they weren't going to happen.
A new agent! I received a representation offer from an agent in March, just in time for my birthday (woop woop), so I am now represented by Foxy Tongue Voices for all things voiceover in the UK.
A new Video Game! Off to a strong start, this was the first audition I sent off for my new agent, and a few weeks ago, I got the email; I've been cast as one of the main characters in an exciting upcoming indie game. I signed an NDA for this project, so unfortunately, I can't spill the beans until the game is announced, but I had my first recording session yesterday where they showed me some cutscene and gameplay footage, and it's looking awesome.
Podcasting! It's an exciting time over at my podcast production company, Canary Studios, We've had consultations for some very cool and promising podcast clients (one of them a well-known company in the Performing Arts industry), we've re-arranged our pricing to introduce indie and charity packages, making our services more accessible to everyone, and we're in talks with a website design company to revamp the studio website and get it looking shiny and professional.
Conventions, conventions, conventions! I'll be (virtually) attending One Voice next week with plans to go there in person next year, then a few days later I'll be off to London to go to The Podcast Show and soak up as much as I can about the business of podcasting and I've also finally booked my ticket to Develop Brighton later this year.
And lastly, I'm going to give you one of my favourite Tofu recipes, because I had it for dinner after a recording session yesterday and found it to be very soothing on the throat, and it can be whipped up in 10 minutes!
Chilli & Garlic Silken Tofu
Ingredients:
Tofu (silken Tofu works best, but you can also use regular Tofu, as long as it's soft and not firm), black vinegar (this works best but you can give it a try with any vinegar), soy sauce, chopped garlic, sugar (not too much), sesame oil, crispy chilli oil (I recommend the one by Lao Gan Ma, it's elite) I always just eyeball the ingredients to my taste, but if you're unsure just start with 1 tablespoon of vinegar, soy sauce and crispy chilli oil, 1 garlic clove, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and sugar, then tailor to your needs.
Instructions:
Mix the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl and set aside. Put your Silken Tofu in a bowl of water (carefully, silken tofu is delicate) and put it in the microwave for 2 or 3 minutes so it's nicely warmed up, once warm remove from the microwave and drain it, slice the Tofu into cubes (leave it in the bowl to do this as it's very soft) then spoon your sauce mixture over the Tofu (just a small amount to begin with, as it's quite a flavour bomb, put the bowl of remaining sauce on the table and add more as needed)
Then enjoy it either by itself or with a bowl of plain white rice on the side!
Keep dancing, everyone.
